Once again the Homeschoolers’ Support Association’s (HSA) annual Not-Back-to-School Picnic was a success! Despite the cool day, both novice and veteran homeschool families came out to enjoy fellowship, food and fun! A large shelter overlooking the beautiful beach at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park was overflowing with mouth-watering, potluck of food, savory and sweet.
Resources were also abundant. The HSA board members were available to give advice and share information about membership, field trips and other great resources. Chapter members shared information about their co-ops, scout groups and even set up a fun science table for the kids to play with Oobleck and learn about the properties of fluids. Cheri Ayres-Graves and her costumed assistant, Camille Long, came to share about their fun-filled theater classes at From Page to Stage Productions.
Even though the weather prevented the Reptile Man from coming, the kids did not lack in entertainment. There were science experiments, crafts and boffering. The expansive play ground, as always, was a big hit.
Above all this was a time for families to connect and reconnect, to get questions answered, anxieties alleviated and to find out about the amazing opportunities available to homeschoolers. We all know that this type of event doesn’t happen unless people are willing to sacrifice their time to serve others. So here’s a big shout out to the incredibly dedicated HSA board and chapter leaders: thank you for all you did to make the picnic a success and for all you continue to do to support local homeschoolers.
So get out your 2017 calendars and mark in next year’s HSA Not-Back-to-School Picnic. Because rain or shine you are sure to have a great time of fellowship and fun!
